Training In Damascus Journalism

Customized Mentorship for Syrian Women Journalists

Women Who Won the War launched a professional mentorship program designed specifically for Syrian women journalists seeking to advance their careers or launch independent media initiatives.

The program is open to those with over five years of professional experience, whether working with media outlets, as freelancers, or aspiring to start their own projects. The initiative is implemented in partnership with the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ).

Running from April 2025 through June, the program offers a customized mentorship track for each participant, built around their individual needs, professional ambitions, and the challenges they face in today’s complex media landscape. Over the course of two months, each journalist takes part in multiple one-on-one sessions with experienced media professionals, as well as group discussions and networking meetings that aim to expand their connections and open new opportunities.

This initiative comes at a time when Syrian women journalists continue to face significant barriers — including gender-based discrimination, limited access to advanced training, and a lack of safe, professional environments.

The program addresses these gaps by offering practical, targeted support in areas such as advanced reporting techniques, digital media tools, newsroom management, and long-term career planning.

This pilot edition supports five journalists, and we envision it as the beginning of a broader effort. We aim to continue and expand this program in future rounds.

If you’re interested in collaborating or supporting our mission to empower more women journalists across Syria and the MENA region, get in touch — let’s work together.
